Jam Capsule "Maria by Callas

(Paris Porte de Versailles - 2017)

For the Maria by Callas capsule at the Grande Halle de La Villette, Tom Volf invited visitors to an immersive encounter with the legendary voice of Maria Callas. The fruit of five years' research and supported by the Maria Callas Endowment Fund, this installation was composed exclusively of rare archives: interviews, personal letters narrated by Fanny Ardant, and intimate videos. For the first time, the diva's face and expressions were at the heart of a 360° multi-sensory installation, offering opera lovers and the curious a unique experience to share with the whole family.

Jam Capsule Maria by Callas

Tom Volf: Jam Capsule

They're talking about it...

"A capsule to share with the whole family, for opera lovers and novices alike, who will have the opportunity to discover this art form that Callas made popular and accessible to all.

- Le Parisien

"Come and discover the legendary Maria Callas in a unique immersive setting at the heart of the Grande Halle de la Villette. Through never-before-seen archives, the fruit of five years' research by director Tom Volf, a completely different Callas comes to life on screen, in a grandiose projection with multi-dimensional sound. Tom Volf, an acknowledged expert on the opera singer, has produced this capsule for the whole family to share, for opera lovers and novices alike, who will have the opportunity to discover this art form that Callas made popular and accessible to all".

- Armadillo

"Callas at 360°! The content is not a compilation of arias: it tells the story. Director Tom Volf has subtly interwoven the biographical elements with the live performances, so that art and pedagogy can be expressed as a duo. All sensibilities can be brought together in an 'experience' that lets us hear, in concert, the exceptional timbre and inner voice of a woman totally devoted to her art. Far from the glossy dramas, far from the sad end at the age of 53, in the solitude of her Paris flat, Callas is rendered to us in her solar simplicity. Infinitely touching, despite the height of her pedestal".

- Opéra Magazine

"And it's a successful gamble: some of the spectators we meet at the exit still have tears in their eyes. Isabelle has been a Callas expert for years, and already knew all the archive footage... " I was moved. I was moved - and what's more, it was a gift from my son, so it's all the more precious. I was completely unfamiliar with this kind of format and I loved it. You just let yourself go - at one point I almost applauded! You really felt like you were in the atmosphere of the theatre, it was a magical moment. All I want to do now is go back and listen to her songs again.
