His life is music.
His story is in his songs.
Through rare archive images and her previously unpublished personal archives, this documentary film immerses us in the intimate world of Véronique Sanson, one of the greatest French singers and composers. Told in the first person, this introspective journey reveals the secrets and memories of a life marked by love, passion, and a perpetual quest for freedom. The texts of her songs, used as a common thread, weave an emotional and poetic narrative which reveals the soul of a woman with an exceptional journey. From moments of glory to personal trials, the film highlights Véronique's duality: both strong and vulnerable, sunny and melancholic, creating a sincere and authentic portrait of a timeless artist.

In 2013, after a first evening at the opera at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Tom Volf discovered Maria Callas. The shock is such that he spends the night listening to her repertoire. Four years of quest followed, across the world, to find those who knew her and exhume archives kept for decades: personal photos, letters, super-8s, recordings never previously released.
From this new material is born Maria by Callas, an intimate portrait constructed without the voice of an external author: it is Callas herself who recounts her life. Joyce DiDonato and Fanny Ardant lend their voices to this narration. Distributed by Sony Pictures Classics in over 50 countries, hailed by the press as “the most-watched French film abroad in 2018” (UniFrance).
